Bartoli ousts top-seeded Chakvetadze in Luxembourg

09/28/2007 - Luxembourg City, Luxembourg (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Wimbledon runner-up Marion Bartoli upset U.S. Open semifinalist Anna Chakvetadze of Russia in Friday's quarterfinal action at the $600,000 Fortis Championships.

The fifth-seeded Bartoli outlasted the top-seeded Chakvetadze 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 on the indoor hardcourts at CK Sport Kockelscheuer.

The French Bartoli's semifinal opponent on Saturday will be fourth-seeded Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova, who barely held off sixth-seeded Swiss Patty Schnyder 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. Hantuchova squandered three match points while leading 5-3 in the second set, as Schnyder went on to claim the stanza, Fortunately for the Slovakian, she was able to prevail in a very tight third.

Second-seeded Serbian Ana Ivanovic eased into the final four with a 6-1, 6-2 thrashing of last week's Portoroz titlist, eighth-seeded Frenchwoman Tatiana Golovin, who was riding a seven-match winning streak.

The French Open runner-up Ivanovic will meet Russian Vera Zvonareva on Saturday, as Zvonareva got past Belarusian Victoria Azarenka 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) on Day 5 here.

The 2007 Luxembourg titlist will claim $88,265.
