Rays P Howell has season-ending surgery

05/19/2010 - Bronx, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Tampa Bay Rays reliever J.P. Howell will miss the entire season after having surgery on his left shoulder, the team announced on Wednesday.

The operation was performed Wednesday by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama and it is expected that Howell will be ready for the 2011 season.

He recorded 17 saves and a 7-5 record over 69 appearances for Tampa Bay last season, but did not appear in a single game this season.

He threw a simulated game on Monday, but had to leave the mound after throwing 12 pitches.
